Taft Eagle News

Good Evening Taft Families,

This is Principal Garcia-Rubio calling with our Sunday update.   We hope everyone had a restful weekend.

Term 4 began on Monday, April 12, 2021.  Students have returned to periods 4, 5, and 6--the classes they originally began for Term 2.  Questions regarding schedules or schedule changes may be directed to Mrs. Sanchez, our counselor at [email protected].  A list of Term 4 Class codes is included in the email transcript of this communication.

Instructional Model Update

We are pleased to share that we have 220 students reporting on-site for in-person/hybrid learning.  At this time, we are keeping a wait-list for families who would like to change their instructional model from online only to hybrid.  This is because we must confirm that our classrooms have the capacity for the appropriate social distancing.  For more information, please contact our office at 858-935-2650.

In addition, we would like to thank our students for doing a great job following all of the health and safety guidelines.

Registered students who are reporting to Taft for in-person/hybrid learning should bring:

1. A completed Daily Symptom Check Form (if possible)

Click here for a PDF of the Daily Symptom Checker

2. Backpacks and learning materials

3. A refillable water bottle

4. A small snack (if needed)

5. Their charged Chromebook or device

Friday Schedule

As a reminder, Fridays will be online only for all students and check-in is from 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.  This week, check in will be period 5.  Students will have asynchronous or independent work to complete.

For our students who are remaining online only, we ask that they continue to log in to their teachers' respective online platforms.

A new list of codes is attached to this communication:

Term 3 ended on Friday, April 9, 2021.  Grades are available on PowerSchool now.

To qualify for the Term 3 Honor Roll, a student must have a 3.33 grade point average or above, with no D’s or F’s and no N’s or U’s.

Please save the date.  We will have a drive-through Honor Roll Celebration and certificate pick up on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

Limited Front Office Hours in Effect

Because we need all our available staff to check-in students at the front gates on Gramercy Drive, our front office will be closed in the mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Walk-in support is available from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon.  Thank you for your understanding as we open up our school for in-person learning.

We are pleased to announce that the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) is offering an online experience for our parents and families this Tuesday, April 20, 2021.  PIQE believes in empowering our parents and families to begin planning for a successful college preparation now that our students are in middle school.  We encourage all of our parents and families to attend this powerful experience.  There are morning and afternoon sessions on Zoom and this opportunity will be hosted in both English and Spanish. The Zoom codes are all included in this communication.
