Taft Eagle News

Good Evening Taft Families,

This is Principal Garcia-Rubio calling with our Monday update.   We hope everyone had a restful weekend and holiday.

Friday Schedule

As a reminder, all students are online only on Fridays. Students are expected to check in with their teachers from 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.  This Friday’s check in will be during period 4.

2020-2021 Testing Update

This year, middle school students did not have to take our state test, the Smarter Balanced Assessments.  Instead, students are taking 3 smaller San Diego Unified School District assessments.  Last Wednesday, students took the District Essential Mathematical Indicators (DEMI)  exam online.  This week, students will take the FAST Reading Inventory on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, and a brief Socio-Emotional Screener on Thursday, June 3, 2021.  All students, both online only and in person/hybrid will take these assessments this school year.

7th Grade Update

All 7th Grade students and families are asked to take the California Healthy Kids Survey for 2020-2021. This survey gives our school important feedback for our climate and culture.  We ask that you please take a few minutes to complete this important anonymous survey.  This survey is only for 7th Grade families.  Questions regarding the survey may be directed to Ms. Julie Eiter at [email protected].

 8th Grade Update

Promotion at this time is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.  It will be a drive-thru celebration.  A link to the details of this event is included in this communication.  We would love for all of our 8th Grade students to participate in the end-of-year activities, including promotion.

Please check out our Google Classroom for more information, including the 8th Grade Student Promotion Checklist.

Students may return their textbooks on Friday, June 4, 2021, during regular school hours. Students may also return their textbooks via drive-thru on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in our parking lot.  8th-grade students may keep their Chromebooks if they are attending a district high school.  An 8th-grade newsletter has been created for all of this information. The link is also included in this communication.
